Cap Go Meh Festival In Indonesia

Cap Go Meh Festive in Kemaro Island

Fifteen days after Chinese New Year, Chinese ethnics in Indonesia celebrate Cap Go Meh. In Palembang, they celebrate it in one famous island named Kemaro (derives from the local language means roomates dry season). People will come and pray by burning incense sticks while asking for mercy and luck. Not only Lion Dance (Lion dance performed by two persons covered by lion costume) or Liong (a long dragon-like puppet manned by more than three persons) would be performed in this island, but you can see some chinese opera puppet played in oriental intstument . Hungry? Some food stalls also offer you local foods like pempek, Mi celor, tekwan.

How to get there? The easy way is by going to Sriwijaya fertilizer plant and find roomates bridge leads you to the island. Or if you want to feel the sensation of being locals who want to celebrate this event, go to some docks like Gudang Garam in Sayangan dock, waiting for a free barge (ship in local language) roomates will take you there.
