All About Philippines

our-ASEAN.blogspot.com - The Philippines is one of the 10 ASEAN member countries, many places that make us interested to visit, with the slogan IT'S MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES. Many reasons to visit the Philippines, such as:

1. Climate
Climate in the Philippines is a good forest, tropical savanna tropical or tropical, or subtropical humid (in the high-altitude plateau) is characterized by relatively high temperatures, oppressive humidity and lots of rain. There are two seasons in this country, the rainy season and dry season, based on the amount of rainfall. Based on the temperature, the hottest year is seven months from March to October, winter winds bring cold air from November to February. May was the warmest month, and January the coolest.

The weather in the Philippines is monitored and managed by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomy Services Administration (known locally by its acronym, PAGASA).

2.  Wildlife / Nature

Wildlife in the Philippines, including a large number of endemic plant and animal species. Waters around the country were reported to have the highest levels of marine biodiversity in the world. Philippines is considered as one of the seventeen mega-diverse countries and global biodiversity hotspot. In the 2000 Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), 418 of the 52 177 state listed as endangered species. The Philippines has among the highest rates in the world with the discovery of sixteen new species of mammals discovered in the last ten years. Therefore, the level of endemism for the Philippines has increased and will likely continue to rise.

- There are 191 mammal species in the Philippines, of which 8 are critically endangered, 13 are endangered, 30 are vulnerable, and 1 near-threatened. One of the listed species thought to be extinct for the Philippines

- There are 612 bird species found in the Philippines, of which 194 are endemic, 3 have been introduced by humans, and 52 rare or accidental. There are 67 globally threatened species.

- There are also 332 species of reptiles and amphibians found in the archipelago, 215 of which are endemic. It is believed that no more than 14 of the 114 total number of species of venomous snakes in Indonesia.

- The Philippines has about 330 freshwater fish, including nine endemic genera and more than 65 endemic species, many of which are limited to a single lake.

- About 70 percent of the nearly 21,000 species of insects are found only in the Philippines recorded in the country. In addition to about a third of the 915 butterflies found here are endemic to the country, and more than 110 of the more than 130 species of tiger beetle are found nowhere else. One of the largest butterfly in the world and the largest in the Philippines, Magellan Birdwing can be found here. Largest moth, the Atlas moth, can be found in the Philippines.

- At least one-third of the more than 9,250 species of native vascular plants are endemic to the Philippines. However, there is no endemic plant families into the country. The family of gingers, begonias, gesneriads, orchids, pandanus, palms, and very high dipterocarp species are endemic. For example, two-thirds of the 150 species of trees present in the country are found elsewhere in the world. 700 of the 1,000 species of orchids are found in the Philippines for a unique wildlife.

Extensive lowland rain forests and mountains of the Philippines, most of which go today, dominated by at least 45 species of dipterocarp. Large trees are abundant for up to 1,000 meters above sea level. Other important tree species here include the giant fig, which provides food for fruit bats, parrots, and monkeys, and Pterocarpus indicus, which as dipterocarps, is valued for its wood.

3. Tradition
"All Souls Day" is a day of charity and prayer for the dead. The goal is to live to help people in purgatory. Many western churches annually observe All Souls' Day on November 2, and many Eastern churches celebrate before Lent and the day before Pentecost.

This is an annual tradition where we honor our dead by visiting their remains in the cemetery to pray for their souls and remember them. We have our loved ones and Lapida puntod (grave and monument with inscriptions) cleaned and repainted for the celebration. We brought flowers, Atang (food and beverage offerings for the souls) and lit candles. Some even bring photo frame their loved ones of the deceased and some over night stays read Rosary and Litany for the Dead. The living relatives also took the time to bond with each other.

"Parada ng Lechon" It is an annual festival in the historic town of Balayan in Batangas. If you are visiting this city on June 24, commemorating the feast of St. John Basptist, the saint who baptized Jesus. On this day hoping to get wet, splashed and drenched with water and "baptized" again. City turned into a war zone with the kids and adults alike were armed with water guns filled with tap or cold water.
